On Jun 30th, 2013, B. Scott set to host the BET Awards Pre-Show. B. Scott is the gender non-conforming media personality who dresses in feminine or female clothing.

B. Scott is The Multimedia Maven, TV and Internet personality, best known as one of the first internet celebrities to successfully transition into television and radio. With his comforting, festive personality and signature gender-bending glamour, B. Scott has become a household name.

Although this is regular attire for the host, his attire during the pre-show stirred up a controversy that BET was not prepared for. During the show, B. Scott was pulled off of the red carpet and required to change his clothes to be more masculine.

Twitter reacted with questions, concerns, and support for B. Scott. Some dubbed the actions of the network as “shocking” and “appalling.” However, B. Scott took to twitter and his website to explain his feelings and emotions about the incident. Initially, B. Scott did not make any negative comments towards the network and explained to his fan base that it was a “last minute wardrobe change.”

As the months progressed, the story dropped from the media. However on January 9th, emails between BET executives were leaked, bringing the issue back into media spotlight.

Twitter users spread the news of the leak like wildfire. Some users explain that the tragedy to see a networkexhibittransphobia. However, others support the network’s decision to have B. Scott change his clothes.

According to an article released by Fusion, BET issued an apology to the host, calling the situation a “miscommunication.”

The article cites BET as saying, “The incident with B. Scott was a singular one with a series of unfortunate miscommunications from both parties.” BET “regret(s) any unintentional offense to B. Scott and anyone within the LGBT community and we seek to continue embracing all gender expressions.”
