Jasmine Williams is one of the founding members of Official Precedence, an urban t-shirt company.
Williams began Official Precedence in Summer 2013, and registered the company in November 2013 as a partnership along with Waylon Witcher and Christopher Duncan. The business began as a way to compliment the sneakers released by Nike and Adidas, as well as support communities such as Sneaker Head Confessions, Shoe Game Los Angeles, Vegas Sneaker Heads, and more online communities.
The concept has transformed from a way to compliment the Jordan and Kevin Durant shoes, to promoting and encouraging their community. The passion for sneakers began when Williams was in Elementary School. While in school, Williams, like many children, had to wear uniforms which consist of khaki or black pants with a white button-down or polo shirt. For Williams, shoes and jackets became a way to express her individuality. It was also a way for her parents to promote good grades, as shoes quickly became the reward for doing well in school.
Williams and her team produce shirts, sweatshirts, tank tops, and more with branded sayings and graphics, as well as customizing designs for community organizations, schools, and churches. For Williams, the clothes that they design are a way of reconnecting with children who go through the same circumstances as she did. The items that she designs, that compliment the shoes, helps to unite a spectrum of people with common interests in shoes, across gender and ages.
Their most recent campaign being done 0fficial Precedence is #StackOrStarve – a campaign about prioritizing, “creating a space where you save money and execute your plan to meet your goals or dreams, or starve or go without,” says Williams.
Last year, Williams attended one of the WhatIsButch? the Campaign fashion show. As a part of the audience, Williams sat front row to other clothing lines such as Demo Designs, Fourteen, Haute Butch, and more. The clothing at the show included t-shirt lines, hat lines, accessories, swimwear, and tailored fashions. Williams felt inspired by the fashion show and believes that the fashion show that supports the gender non-conforming community is a way to unite people around a universal way of communication… Fashion.
Outside of 0fficial Precedence, Williams maintains a full-time position with Frito-Lay as a part of their Route Sales team, distributing and selling products to her local stores. Williams has expanded a part of the 0fficial Precedence by including local organizations. Williams is responsible for obtaining the Vons account, where Williams and her team produces the shirts for the Vons team members to wear during work and work-related functions.
In her personal time, Williams is the proud mother of a 3 year old named Christopher.
