Breaking Into Hollywood

Hollywood Sign

Breaking into Hollywood is a journey. The journey to today has been a long process. And I still have many more places to go.

This post isn’t about that. This post is about the ups and downs of doing what we do. Like the ebbs and flows of the ocean, or the changes on a rollercoaster, the changes can some times be devastating and you can feel like you may drown.

It is during these moments that you wonder if you have made the right decision. Should you be an actor? Should you be a musician? An athlete? Should you continue to follow your dream?

Turning Your Dreams Into Your Reality

Having a dream is not for the faint of heart… You will not win every game, just like you will not book every audition.

Having a dream is not for the faint of heart. If you dream of breaking into Hollywood or getting a championship NFL ring, then you will have your good days, but you will also have your bad days. You will not win every game, just like you will not book every audition.

Many people say that you cannot hold onto the bad. But that is easier said than done. Even when you want to let go, the symphony of “No’s” takes a toll.

Look, I am not saying this as this is happening to others. This is my story. This is my experience. For a while now, behind every smile has been a dozen tears. Behind every laugh is a feeling of fraud or fear.

I struggle sometimes with getting out of bed or getting dressed because I am not sure how many more “No’s” I can face. While sometimes I struggle with going to bed because I do not feel like I have done enough to further my career… my dream.

As artists we are told to focus on our craft, to sharpen our tools. But we must remember that our most important tool is ourselves. Our minds and bodies are the tools that we need most to succeed. So if you are breaking into Hollywood, or banging on the doors of the NBA, remember to take the time you need for your mental health.
